Nomination Criteria

Units applying for this award are required to provide specific evidence and examples of efforts made to support the ongoing success and achievement of P&A employees in two key areas. These two key areas must be addressed in order to submit a nomination.

Please provide background information and supportive evidence through practice, protocols, funding, or other means that support and demonstrate each of the following key areas within your unit:

Key Area 1: Enhance the careers and morale of P&A employees. (Limit 500-1000 words)
Key Area 2: Provide support for the outstanding achievements and contributions of P&A staff. (Limit 500-1000 words)

In addition, award nominations may include examples of additional practices that support and enhance the work and contributions of P&A employees within the unit being nominated.

Of particular interest and importance are examples of outstanding P&A achievements in research, teaching, administration, and service.

Additional examples can include, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Ongoing professional leave opportunities, especially those provided through unit funding
  • Ongoing professional development opportunities
  • Appropriate and fair renewal and non-renewal practices
  • Recurring P&A staff awards and recognition within the unit
  • Active P&A roles in unit decision-making, such as opportunities to serve on Senate committees or other governing bodies
  • Provision of adequate travel funds for attendance at professional conferences
  • Prevailing climate and culture of respect, support, and encouragement.

Additional hard-copy documentation is not necessary for your unit to be considered for the Outstanding Unit Award, however, CAPA strongly encourages submission of additional, hard-copy documentation, evidence, or examples that support and demonstrate practices that enhance the careers and morale of P&A employees and provide support for the outstanding achievements and contributions of P&A staff. Additional hard-copy evidence or examples may include, but are not limited to, such things as the following:

  • Letters of support
  • Written policies regarding professional development, renewal and non-renewal policies, travel funds, etc.
  • Newsletters or other written reports that capture the cultural climate within the unit
  • Information on unit-level awards or other methods of recognition for P&A employees
