The CAPA executive committee consists of the chair, vice chair and all other committee chairs for the current academic year. This committee meets at least twice per month to plan for the CAPA monthly meeting and to discuss staff issues as they arise.
The primary goal in this area is to maintain fairness and equity for P&A staff. The committee monitors the planning and implementation of University policies to ensure that P&As receive fair representation. It is important that P&A staff are part of unit decisions regarding salaries and other issues. This committee works on vacation, health care, compensation principles, retirement and human resource policy and procedure issues. A representative from this committee also sits on the University’s Health Benefits Advisory Committee. For more information contact Bill Roberts at rober029@umn.edu.
The Communication Committee is responsible for providing P&A staff with the most reliable and timely information on current events. These efforts include brochures, articles, forums, workshops, Web site, e-mail, and monthly highlights. The committee manages the overall image and messages of CAPA. For more information contact at .
This committee ensures that P&As have the opportunity to enhance and develop their careers while at the University. Attaining advanced degrees or updating job-related skills are encouraged and CAPA recommends P&A staff have a professional development plan. For more information contact Amber Fox at amberfox@umn.edu.
The Representation and Governance (R and G) committee assists CAPA members with governance activities within CAPA, and promotes representation of P and A personnel within University governance. In particular, this committee focuses on building Unit-level P and A groups, oversees CAPA officer elections and reviews and maintains the CAPA Constitution and Bylaws. Representatives are elected by their unit constituents and serve three year terms. Representatives have a voice in establishing University policies and interact with other University governing bodies.
CAPA meetings are held on the third Friday of each month and are open to the public. Meetings are scheduled every third Friday of the month beginning in September and take place in 101 Walter Library at 8:30am.
To serve on a committee, P&As do not need to be a CAPA representative to serve on a CAPA Committee. Each committee has a different charge and is run by volunteers. For questions regarding a committee contact the committee chair or any CAPA representative.
